I, like many of you, love a good Chanel Bag. However, I am also a bit put off by the ever rising price tag on Chanel bags (really, it’s been insane). I then find myself looking at other brands because the design and quality are just as good as Chanel without the hefty price tag. But, sometimes you stumble upon a bag that just speaks to you and makes you want to grab your keys, hop in your car, and drive to the store and buy it (I’d order online but Chanel hasn’t joined 2014 yet so you can’t buy bags off their site).
So what’s the bag that I’m lusting after? This Chanel Velvet Boy Bag. Let me get a few things out of the way: I do not need this bag, I’m not sure this velvet bag will hold up well, and at $ 3,800 there are countless other bags that would be better suited for my collection. But sometimes, you find yourself liking a bag you wouldn’t otherwise be drawn to, and for reasons you can’t quite explain, you just love it.
That’s me with this bag.
I can say that I love the Boy Bag, and that’s nothing new for me, but I don’t really want the small size as it doesn’t fit as much as I’d like. I do think one of the main reasons I love this bag is the color, more specifically the burgundy color on chevron velvet.
This combo makes me want to go on a fall drive in the middle of the mountains. I suppose the cold front that came through Florida over the past couple of days got me in the mood. I worry that the raised chevron velvet would show wear quite easily, after all velvet tends to break down quicker and look more worn, but even with all of these cons, I still find myself loving this bag.
I suppose that’s one of the great aspects of fashion – it doesn’t always need to be practical. I have plenty of practical bags, but if you ask me today what bag is on my wishlist, I’d tell you this one. Buy via Chanel for $ 3,800.

The case of the Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis Bag is a bit of an odd one. LV has never gone out of its way to promote or advertise the style, which originally just came in the brand’s classic monogram and didn’t benefit from a ton of very public celebrity appreciation, like many popular bags do at the outset. Instead, it seems to have caught on organically among the brand’s customers at a time when the brand is experiencing renewed interest from shoppers as a whole, which has served to make it mighty in-demand indeed.
Louis Vuitton has realized it has a hit on its hands, of course, which means that we now get a few new versions of the Pochette Métis every season to whet our appetites. For Fall 2017, that includes three iterations in Epi leather: one in the larger, classic size, which comes trimmed with monogram canvas, and two patterned versions in the new mini. The prints are particularly beguiling, especially since printed Epi is something that’s relatively rare to find at LV. Check out all three new pieces below.

This year’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic was full of lovely ensembles that left our fashion-obsessed hearts smitten. It was all about easy-breezy style, featuring flirty silhouettes and flowy dresses that looked so alluring against a grassy, green backdrop. But it wasn’t just about the stylish outfits that paraded on the event. We just had to shine the spotlight on the bags that added a whole lot of personality to this year’s ensembles.
Here are three of our favorite bags from the 8th Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic.
Kate Hudson was extra confident with her new buzz cut on the grassy green carpet. The actress, who shaved her head a couple of months ago for a new project, was radiant and beautiful even without her signature blonde locks. She fit right in with her candy-striped ensemble, which she paired with flower earrings and a Clare V. “Petite Alice” straw purse that complemented the look.
Ashley Madekwe added a hint of whimsical effect to her flirty ensemble with a limited edition Chanel “Lait De Coco” Bag, which features a milk carton shape with iridescent leather. The words “Lait De Coco,” embellished in a mix of crystals and pearls, are displayed on the bag.
The lovely Victoria Justice decided to punctuate her three-piece denim suit with an edgy-looking brass metal crossbody bag. The From St. Xavier “Atria” clutch features beautiful etched detailing on its exterior and it also doubles as an evening clutch. This unique clutch displays intricate patterns on its hard case, and was clearly one of the best accessories at the event.

I’ve been doing this long enough that my instincts are usually pretty good. No one trying to predict how a wide market will react to any particular thing has 100% accuracy, but talking with our readers every day for almost a decade gives me a better shot than most. I don’t mind admitting when I’m wrong, though, and I was wrong about backpacks. I thought they were a flash in the pan when they started flooding into stores in 2014, but here we are, watching early 2018 collections start to arrive in stores, and backpacks have quietly stuck around to become a staple of the accessories department. Color me surprised.
On a practical level, it’s easy to see why backpacks’ charms have sustained them beyond the trend stage. Fashion has taken a turn for the casual in recent years, with a particular emphasis on sporty details and materials, and backpacks have a naturally athletic implication to them that works perfectly for modern tastes. They’re also functionally convenient for activities in which the carrier benefits from having two completely free arms while maintaining a reasonable cargo capacity, which covers anything from taking the kids to the park to going shopping with friends.
Because backpacks have enjoyed continued popularity, the versions available now are some of the best we’ve seen in the past several year. Check out over two dozen of our favorites below.

Making a metallic bag look expensive and luxurious can be a tough needle to thread. If you get the tone, texture, color or shine off, even by a little bit, things start to look really cheap, really fast. And that’s just a regular metallic, like silver or gold—when you add in a color-shifting iridescent or holographic quality, that’s even more difficult. Since holographic bags peaked as a trend in 2012, though, plenty of brands have given the finishes a try here or there to hone their skills, and now the look seems to be coming back around.
Personally I’ve always loved the look of these bags, but never quite enough to buy one for myself. I would, though—I generally love metallic silver accessories and get a lot of wear out of them, and this look is only one step beyond that. I’m also always happy to see holo bags come back around, because when skillfully implemented, the finish can give enormous depth to the leathers to which its applied.
